The organisers of the CRC Speedshow sent the club a request for an early tidy classic mini Cooper and an early BMW Mini Cooper. Tony M. submitted a photo of his two grey and white samples, which they liked and said bring them along to the CLASSIC INSURANCE RETROMANIA stand. This was the main theme stand at the show with 10 "sets" of pairs of old and later production vehicles, depicting the old and the new that could be insured by the site sponser.
Among the group of sets were , Toyota FJ40 and Cruiser, Mustang, Camaro, Dodge Challanger, VW beetle, Fiat Bambina, E and F type Jaguar's, S type Jaguar's and a GT 40 set. Brilliant stuff.
Tony got on the shows facebook page early on Friday cleaning the rain off his Cooper S, to expose the shine. Many show fans absolutly loved the classic grey 1964 Cooper! It was a change from all the Ferrari's, Lambo's, Bentley's, McLarens and other exotica nearby. The next hall down was a National Hot Rod show/competition. The new Honda R type was shown next to the Retromania display, and the New Lexus 500 coupe had it first NZ showing/reveal, on a stand nearby. The Bentley/Lamborgini stand was the closest to the retro sets.
You had to be there, too much to put words to, the crowd was a buzz, especially when Mad Mike, and Fanga Dan, the Minis and ride on lawnmowers were drifting on the wet arena tarseal. Packed grandstand stuff.
Other club members at the show were; Richard with his yellow custom mini in the foyer, Trent, the Muries convertable, and Aiden's black Rover mini, trackside at the arena, in the rain at times, with the Mini race drivers. Andrew C. mokeless this year, up from Taupo for the day. Ross C. winning 3rd place in the hot rod competition, ute section, with his V8 mini, "wild thing".
On behalf of the Mini fans, I would like to thank CRC, and the show organisers, especially Ross and Brenda, and Terry and his helpers and Larry from Classic Ins., for allowing us to be part of the CRC Speedshow buzz this year.
