What is your name? Ross Galloway
What Mini(s) do you own? 1981 Mini City 1000. The seats have been replaced with Toyota MR2 ones, but not much else has been changed apart from these and the seat belts, headlights etc.
How many years have you been a Mini enthusiast? About four years, although I have admired them from a distance for many years.
What and when was your first car? The first car I owned was a 1973 Morris 1300 which I bought in 1978. Great for travelling long distances and carrying all my worldly possessions from one flat to another. But a little unreliable. A bearing in the gearbox disintegrated, necessitating a rebuild. The frost plug blew out and the car overheated, requiring new rings. And the Hydrolastic suspension had to be pumped up at fairly regular intervals. The car I learned to drive in was a 1964 Hillman Imp. Like the Mini, it was a delightful car to drive.
How many years have you had a Mini? About 4 years. I originally had a light blue 1974 Mini 850 in Christchurch when I was a member of CMOC (for about 18 mths). The Mini had everything wrong with it and it came from bad home. I left it in Christchurch for the Cantabs to try and deal with.
Is/Are your mini/s ‘everyday’ mini(s) or ‘special occasion’ Mini(s)? It’s for pleasure not for work.
What is/are your other car(s)? 1994 Toyota Corolla GL. White of course.
If you could have any other car in the world, what would it be? 1961 Ferrari 250GTO SWB Berlinetta.
What are your favourite Mini events? Track days. I just wish I could get to one.
Is there anything you would like to do with the Mini Club? Go along to more fun runs.
What is something you can’t live without? Petrol.
What is your favourite type of food? ANZAC biscuits
What is your favourite TV programme? “Fifth Gear” and Formula 1 GP coverage
Anything else we should know? My Mini won’t look this original/weather beaten for too many more years, God willing.
